Kearny Thistle United FC is proud to announce that two of its players have made the 2008 Girls New Jersey Olympic Development Program.
Emily Carrera and Angelina Farinhas both play for the U12 Kearny Thistle United 2008 Roses squad. They both started playing soccer at the age of 5 in Kearny. They have worked extremely hard over the years to achieve a high level of technique and skill.
Q: Are you happy you made ODP and why?
Angelina responded by saying, “Yes, It will make me a better player and hopefully make me become a professional soccer player.”
Emily said, “Yes! ODP will give me a better chance to play with better competition.”
Q: Why did you get selected for ODP?
Angelina stated, “I tried really hard, a lot of effort and I never gave up!”
Emily, “I tried really hard and there were not a lot of defenders!”
Q: Who is your favorite player and why?
Angelina chose Alex Morgan. “She works real hard, puts a lot of effort in her play and she’s a very intelligent player.”
Emily chose Alex Morgan also. “She is a really good player and she might be better than most guys! Many people think that girls are not as good as guys, but I think we can beat them!”
Q: Who is your favorite Coach and why?
Angelina chose Coach Joe. “Coach Joe teaches me how to be skillful, tactical, see the next play, be a leader, and motivates me to be the best! He told me I could be one of the best, if I work really hard at it.”
Emily chose Coach Anthony. “Coach Anthony has been with me since 5 years old. He has taught me a lot, especially PEP. PASS, EFFORT, PRESSURE. Coach Joe is real good too!”
